The Shrink Has Shrunk?

Wow.....It just seems there are many good psychology articles being published lately. Here's one from Newsweek regarding the possible problems with psychotherapy. Maybe we aren't helping as many people as we think.

As I read this article, I had a flashback from 25 years ago when a professor walked into the graduate seminar and told us that he had just learned this great word: iatrogenic. He went on to explain its meaning and then pondered aloud whether it had applications in the psychological world.

Perhaps sometimes the treatment does worsen the disease/disorder, and there are undoubtedly some psychoquacks out there. At the same time, there are hundreds of thousands (not too good at estimating numbers) of people who benefit from talk therapy.
