Although Psychology Today isn't a publication I often read, I found this interesting article about day care: http://psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20050504-000004.html . Students in my summer classes (PSY 201 and PSY 203) will be submitting their views on the topic as a written assignment.
Personally I am very interested in bias in research and wonder if we are seeing some here. Do you think we are inclined to report results that are favorable to our hypothesis? And maybe aviod results that are not supportive?

Just a couple of questions:
What are the working women of America supposed to do with their childen while they're working? It's not a perfect situation, and many (thought by no means all) women wish they could be stay-at-home-moms like their more fortunate sisters. However, financial needs (and okay, wants) dictate that many mothers must work.
Another thing I'm wondering is whether Belsky found anything positive about the nonparental care experience...increased cooperation, better social skills, and so forth. I think it's important to list the good AND the not so good.
Also, could it be that these aggressive little youngsters have some less than perfect home environments that might contribute to the situation?
And finally, I fervently beleive that there are many children who are better off in some sort of day care for at least part of the day because they might get better treatment there than at home. Let's face it: Some women shouldn't be mothers, and their children are less likely to be neglected or abused and more likely to be stimulated and cared for in a child care facility than with their mothers.
I hope (and believe) that Belsky's intentions are good and that he wants the nation's children to be happier.

P.S. Yes, I think there may have been a bit of bias in this research. And yes again, I think I may have strayed a tad from being scientific. That just goes to show that even psychology instructors have emotions and that sometimes their limbic systems take over their cognitive ones.
